Built around one moment: meeting a word while reading
The best words find you in The Economist, a novel, anywhere. WordVale makes that moment count.
Save from any app in two taps
Highlight a word — or a whole sentence — tap Share, done. Share a sentence and WordVale spots the word worth learning, keeping your sentence as a real example.
Every word, fully explained
Learner-friendly definitions — including the exact sense from your sentence. Idioms explained. Pronunciation three ways: audio, IPA, and easy syllables (ih·FEM·er·uhl).
Three minutes a day
Spaced repetition brings each word back right before you'd forget it. Close the daily ring, keep the streak — one free pass a week, because life happens.
Meaning, spelling, pronunciation
Tag each word with why you saved it. Quizzes test what you actually need: recall, exact spelling, even which syllable takes the stress.
Your language, optional
Add translations in Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Arabic and more — with native example sentences. Each language is a one-time $3.99 add-on.
On all your devices
Your vault syncs through your own iCloud — your account, your storage. No WordVale account, and your word list never passes through our servers.
Built for the bigger screen
On iPad your word list and the word you're reading sit side by side, and Today and Statistics spread across the full display — not a phone layout stretched to fit.
Yours, properly
No account. Export every word to CSV whenever you like. Privacy label: “Data Not Linked to You.”

Questions
- Is WordVale a subscription?
- No. $17.99 once, after a free 7-day trial. Optional translation languages are one-time $3.99 add-ons. You never pay again.
- How do I add words from what I read?
- Highlight text in Safari or any app, tap Share, choose WordVale. Whole sentences work too — WordVale finds the word worth learning and keeps the sentence as your example.
- Where is my data?
- On your device, and synced across your devices through your own iCloud account. Your word list, review history and statistics never pass through our servers. When a word isn't in the free dictionary, that word and the sentence you saved it from are sent to our definition service to look it up — nothing else, and never your vault. No WordVale account, no tracking, and everything exports to CSV whenever you want.
- Does it work on iPad?
- Yes, with a layout built for it: your word list and the word you're reading side by side, and Today and Statistics using the whole screen. One purchase covers iPhone and iPad.
- Which languages can I see translations in?
- Fourteen languages: Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Spanish, Italian, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Korean, Indonesian, Turkish and Vietnamese — with native example sentences.
